Halloweeen Happenings!!

I have to admit that I have totally slacked. Working full time and going to school has taken my a toll on my blogging habit. With Halloween come and gone Thanksgiving is soon approaching. Instead of trying to have a catch-up blog entry I am just going to speed ahead and post our Halloween celebration activities. We spent the last two weekends celebrating Halloween.
The first thing we did was decorate sugar cookies the week before Halloween.

In doing little things like decorating cookies we learn how completely different we both are. Jared is all about being creative with the coloring while I pay particular attention to the texture of things. Look at the difference of these cookies.
Even though we do things completely different we work out perfectly together. Decorating cookies with Jared is always fun. We somehow avoided having a frosting fight until the very end. I attacked. And then it ended. I must say it feels good to win.

The next stage of our fall festivities was Sunday afternoon scenic drive up to the Snow Bowl, the local ski resort, to see the last of the changing colors. It was a nice and crisp drive as we proceeded among the pine trees and aspens. Unfortunately the day before with 35mph winds most of the leaves were blown away, but we still did witness some breathtaking scenery.

After this fun filled weekend we were ready for the rest of the celebrations. We began to feel the pressure of having to come up with costumes. We went to the local costume store and were overwhelmed by the choices. In fact we had so many ideas that we left not knowing what to do. A few days later, with renewed determination we went costume hunting again. This time we succeeded. We found costumes that fit our personalities. We decided that Jared would be a jail bird and I would be a detective. Our first appearance in these costumes was a carnival at our church.

At our church carnival we won funniest costume awards. I was pleased. At the carnival we got some crazy reactions from the children. They were completely shocked that I had a mustache. One of our favorite little boys, Anthony, asked me if my mustache was real. I admitted that it was and that I grew it for Halloween. He told me that was impossible. He then told Jared he was a real bad man and that he should not escape from jail anymore. The next day at church he came right up to me and told me he was right. Girls cannot grow mustaches. He then pointed at Jared and told him he was a real bad man and should go back to jail. Bad men should not be at church. I wanted to present the argument to Anthony that bad men might become better if they did attend a church. In fact if they did attend church and had morals maybe they would not have landed in jail. But I held my tongue and let the five year old believe what he may. Through this experience I learned that mustaches itch a lot.

The last event of our two week long Halloween festival was a party hosted by some friends of ours. Any party is good, especially one at Halloween. Halloween parties are guaranteed lots of sugar and good food. What I believe is better than sugar and good food is the homemade root beer and the spectacle of dry ice in action. I could be entertained by dry ice for hours.
Our contribution to the evening were mummy pizzas. Jared and I had so much fun making them. Within moments of being pulled out of the oven they were consumed. The two week long festivities exhausted me so I spent most of the evening listening to entertaining conversations and trying to avoid getting a sugar headache. I must say I was quite successful and enjoyed the evening.

Halloween is over. We'll have to wait another 362 days until we dress up again and give ourselves sugar highs, but until then Thanksgiving is around the corner. Thanksgiving will be another treat. I did hit up Kohl's today and buy a couple Thanksgiving decorations to add some festivity to our cute little apartment. Happy November 2nd.
